Our work begins with the belief that everyone, at every stage of life, can be a changemaker for the planet.
The ecological crisis is not just an environmental challenge.
It is a crisis of disconnection and disbelief that change is possible.
Current systems create the illusion that our actions cannot transform reality and deepen our disconnection from the natural world, from each other, and from ourselves.
We need to rekindle our connection to nature and build the capability to transform.
By finding leading Social Entrepreneurs and Young Changemakers, helping them succeed, and sharing what works, we change the landscape of what’s possible in climate action, and demonstrate the power of an intergenerational network of nature-connected changemakers.
Our Priorities
Ashoka is the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs and a global leader in social innovation. Through the lens of hundreds of social innovators in the People & Planet field, we see creative ways to build a better future for all.
As this work is done, young people will experience irreversible moments of agency for the environment; adults will have protected time and civic infrastructure to access nature daily; and older adults will be recognized for their long-term memory and place-based knowledge.
This is our vision: planetary health and humanity's wellbeing are part of the same story.
Nurture young nature-connected changemakers
Young people are more aware than ever of ecological collapse, but awareness alone does not lead to action. We are nurturing a generation of lifelong environmental stewards by unlocking young people's irreversible experiences of agency for the environment.
Build Lifelong Environmental Agency
As we are living longer lives in a less stable planet, environmental action must become a lifelong journey deliberately designed, resourced, and implemented.
Shift the underlying narratives of ecological crisis
Ambitious climate action needs to become politically, culturally, and socially possible. For that, we are changing the deep interpretative patterns people and institutions use to make decisions.
Support nature-integrated urban infrastructure
Modern cities were largely designed without nature access as a requisite. We support initiatives and networks that integrate nature connection into everyday infrastructure of urban life, whether it’s in a school, a community farm, a church, or a back alley.
